How To Beat Your Boss On Upvc Replacement Door Handles
UPVC Replacement Door Handles
The handles on your doors wear out over time and will need to be replaced. It is important to be able to match the dimensions of the handles you have previously replaced when replacing them.
The three measurements to check are the top screw's position as well as the key hole and lever dimensions. Use the size guide to help you.
Inline Lever/Lever
A lever or lever door handle is a modern handle that can be used on replacement or new doors. This kind of handle is available in various designs and finishes. A variety of manufacturers provide this handle, including Avocet ERA, Fullex, Hoppe, Mila, Millenco & Yale.
Fab and Fix Windsor Inline Sprung Lever Door Handle
The door handles of uPVC/Composite are constructed of durable materials and are ideal for multi-point lock doors which require a robust design. The handles are inline and operate with the same spindle as well as screw fixings so they can be easily fitted to new or existing uPVC/Composite doors.
The sprung lever design allows the handle to be set and angled to provide a comfortable grip and is suitable for all users. The handle has been endurance-tested to 200 000 cycles. This helps ensure that the finish is of high quality and performance is maintained over time. The sprung lever can also be shortened to fit the widest range of locks. This is especially useful for doors with narrower frames, where the cylinder is further back. A shorter lever can be used for doors that have a latch which can be operated with the thumb located on the inside.
Lever Pad
A Lever Pad door handle made of upvc operates differently than lever handles on doors. These handles can work off one single spindle (inline) or independently from both sides using two offset spindles or inline (pad). They are commonly used on UPVC doors with double glazing. They come in a range of finishes & variations.
The handles have been tested to at least 200,000 cycles and are available in a variety of finishes including White and Silver, as well as Chrome & Gold. The finish is BS EN 1670 Grade 5 and is resistant to rust. This provides the handle with an outstanding performance and long-lasting durability for the purpose it was designed for.
All of the UPVC lever pad styles for handles come with the spindle and screws that allow them to be fitted on an existing or new uPVC door. The 211mm backplate fixation centres allow for a bigger handle, which is often an advantage when replacing an old or faulty multi-point door lock mechanism. These levers for handles are also spring-loaded, thereby solving the issue of handles that slide out of the horizontal position when they are not being used.
When choosing a replacement UPVC handle and spindle, it is essential to match the PZ dimensions of both the multipoint lock and the uPVC door. This measurement is also known as the handle centre or 'cylinder centres' and is a critical aspect in ensuring that you have the appropriate handles.
When you have the right PZ size, you'll need to ensure that the handle lever pads and push pads are of a appropriate shape to accommodate the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) approved handles you require for your doors. These are typically round or square, with an internal lever, and an external push pad.
The majority of UPVC Lever Pads we sell are spring-loaded. This means they will return to a horizontal position when they are not in use instead of hanging, and possibly sticking in the frame. This stops draughts and cold air from getting into a house. You will also find that the majority of the UPVC handle lever pad style handles are handed, allowing you to install them on either side of the door.
Euro Cylinder
Cylinder locks are typically found on uPVC doors, but they can be utilized on other types of door. The cylinder lock is operated by using a key that unlocks the cylinder's case. The case is then able to reveal pins that can be aligned to those in the lock, and permit them to rotate the revolving camera, opening the door. Euro Cylinders are available with up to six pins. Doors that are internal and external require different levels of security.
Choosing the right cylinder is essential; it is contingent on how your door and handle are used. For example, external doors should be fitted with a higher security cylinder, whilst internal doors can be secured using an ordinary cylinder. Additionally, certain cylinders come with additional features which can enhance security even more, like anti-drill or anti-bump properties.
A euro cylinder needs to be measured correctly to ensure that it is the correct size for your door. The cylinder should be measured from the central fixing screw hole to the end of the cylinder, including the thumb turn if you have one. If you are unable measure it using the lock in a fixed position, you can take it out of it. A cylinder that protrudes beyond the handle and escutcheon may be vulnerable to attacks such as snapping locks, so it is important that it's not too long.
The design of the latest cylinders has anti-drilling and bump resistance features. These features are designed to minimize the risk of attack by causing the cylinder to rotate in an opposite direction. This can to deflect attacks and ensure your door is secure.
There are cylinders made to withstand snapping. This is a common occurrence on cylinders. A specific tool is used to break the lock's break line and then the front of the cylinder is snapped off. This is a faster and easier way to gain access than the use of a multipoint locking system. It also leaves no evidence of the break-in which can hinder insurance claims.
Spring Cassette
The spring cassette is situated within the base plate of the door handle. It provides a sprung solution to bring the multipoint lock handles to their normal position after use. There was a time when handles of this kind did not have a spring built into them and without this they tend to droop or drop once the locking mechanism is disengaged. This simple component is the best solution to solve this issue. It also prevents your door from getting stuck in either the open or closed position since they are difficult to close manually.
The spring cassettes were made to be used with a spring multipoint lock. They will not fit handles that aren't sprung and you'll have to cut a hole in your backplate in order for them to fit. (Please see the image for a more detailed diagram). They are a replacement for broken or missing cassettes in the backplate of the door handle for numerous brands of uPVC doors. They are sold as one unit. They have a square-cut out that can accommodate an 8mm shaft.
These spring cassettes are an excellent value solution for the problem of sagging door handles. upvc door handles are easy to fit and will prolong the life span of your uPVC doors.
