The Oilers Entertainment Group announced that the prize for Game 3 in the series between the Blackhawks and the Oilers was more than $5.4 million with one lucky winner taking home $2.7 million. No winner has been announced.

Monday night's raffle for Game 2 of the series beat the previous record for the largest sports raffle, as the prize surpassed $3.2 million.

Article content Toronto Raptors fans held the previous record when a 50/50 raffle reached 2 million dollars during the 2019 NBA Finals. This was the year that the team won the championship.

Natalie Minckler, executive director of the Oilers foundation, said the foundation had no expectations for its 50/50 partnership, which was made possible by Alberta Gaming, Liquor & Cannabis approved online sales in July.

She explained, "We hadn't put revenue projections on that because it was a brand new product for us." "We were unsure , so we were a bit conservative. We certainly didn't expect to see the type of volume we have."
WOW IS LIFE

Minckler stated that staff have been working round-the-clock with Ascend Fundraising Solutions to increase the capacity in order to be ready for Friday's game.

Article content Officials said they added 2 1/2 times more capacity to the maximum allowable ticket sales.

"The expectation is - although Oilers fans have demonstrated that they can shatter any expectations that the server will be able to handle demand," said Tim Shipton, senior vice-president of communications for the Oilers Entertainment Group.

Riopel and Minckler both confirmed that the foundation would make use of the funds raised through the online raffles to support groups that help vulnerable populations in downtown Edmonton as well as youth sports in northern Alberta.

Minckler also said that the foundation is overwhelmed by the donations from Albertans.

"It's been incredible to see the reaction and the support from Oilers fans across the province for this initiative," she said.
