Minecraft Pocket Edition is Available on Android Market, but only Users of Xperia Play are Eligible to Apply.
Just a few months after making its grand debut at this year's E3, Minecraft has finally made its way to the Android Market, much to the delight of cube fans and time-wasters everywhere. With this new, Pocket Edition app, Mojang is hoping to faithfully recreate the Minecraft experience on mobile platforms with a special focus placed on the game's creative aspect. Version Alpha 0.1 will allow users to explore worlds that are randomly generated and invite their friends to join their worlds and save multi-player worlds to their mobile phones. You can also control 36 different types of blocks from the convenience of their touchscreens. For the moment the game will be available for Sony Ericsson's Xperia Play, though Mojang plans to release it on other Android handsets "in the near future." It's available now for $6.99. Say hello to Minecraft - Pocket Edition
Today we are releasing the first version of Minecraft - Pocket Edition. The game will be available only to Xperia Play, but it will soon be available to other Android devices.
The first version (Alpha 0.1) will focus on the artistic aspects of Minecraft. We've tried to include features that work with mobile devices, but still maintaining the fundamental Minecraft experience. You can choose blocks using the touchscreen or simply scroll through them with the circle and square buttons on the Xperia Play device. The first version also supports multi-player on a local wireless network allowing users to create a virtual world with friends and invite them to join forces. Some of the features in this release include:

We're planning to keep the Pocket Edition in development for as long as possible as long as we can, just like the PC/Mac/Linux Minecraft version. We're eager to hear what the Minecraft community thinks of our new game, and what you would like to get in the future updates.
