The Queue: Allie Gets Lost In Icecrown Edition

Welcome back to The Queue. WoW.com's daily Q&A column, in which the WoW.com staff answers your questions on World of Warcraft. Allison Robert will be your host today.

Alex will be appearing in a RL issue. I'm afraid that you'll be stuck with the writer who will spend most of the question wandering around the Icecrown. HC SVT DRACONES. Frostwyrms, anyway.

As a warning The answer to that question is a hint that some players might consider to be a spoiler and you should not read beyond the article if you don't want to know any details about the coming Icecrown encounter.

TAD asks...

Is acceleration possible after Cataclysm is dropped?

We don't believe so, because the 1-85 grind for the creation of a new character is likely to be quite lengthy, even with the experience acceleration however, we really aren't sure. I'd say that Blizzard does not have an incentive to alter their current speed for leveling, since it's only effective when the character being considered is outfitted with heirloom items (particularly the shoulders and chest with the experience boost). This won't happen if someone is a new player who is experiencing the content for first time. You've probably witnessed this happen with alts from an entirely different realm from your main. It's not as fast if you do not have a bankroll or heirlooms.

But then again, I'm one of those people who love to hunt for its own sake and I'll be taking on all of the new quests regardless, so what do I know?
i'm only good at one thing

Busuan asks...

Is Angrathar the Wrathgate actually located in ICC? IAW what, where will you be once you entered the gate?

One of the interesting things about Angrathar (and the extreme southern end of Icecrown/northwestern Dragonblight, more generally) is that, past a certain point, the game doesn't seem to be entirely certain about where you are. There's no way to show up on the map, and you have no coordinates, and if you fly straight over the dead middle of the Wrath Gate and keep going until you reach the point where you'll show up at 56,99 in Icecrown despite the fact that you're still not in Icecrown yet.

So yes. That tiny strip of land between Angrathar and Icecrown is, to say the least, on the bizarre side and pretty much a no-man's-land. That's how to be me It's obvious that it's a huge mountain that you're flying over or around. It's likely to be home to at least a portion of the Icecrown Citadel complex. The most likely candidates are one or more of the new 5-mans. However, Pit of Saron takes place in an open space, so it can't possibly be completely enclosed by the mountain, and the final portion of Halls of Reflection takes place outdoors too. A combination of the two and the entire Forge of Souls? But FoS isn't a huge game and there's bound to be something else there too.

On that note, an equally fascinating development is that, at the very least as of the advent of patch 3.3 the exterior "set" for the Arthas encounter also seems to be in place. If you travel through that no-man's land the highest building you'll find is the spire crowned by the Frozen Throne platform that Boubouille recently datamined. It's possible this was already there and I just missed it, but I explored Icecrown extensively both in the beta and more recently (the area was equally strange in terms of coordinates and maps then too) I don't remember seeing the Frozen Throne platform being present before. The Throne itself isn't visible but the platform on which it rests complete with its floor design and the portions that will be broken, is there. We believe that it's the exact thing. More on this in an article that will be published shortly.

If you look straight up from Marrowgar's bedroom you'll see a massive spiral that leads to what I believe to be the Frozen Throne. This could suggest that the first of the Icecrown Citadel raids is the foundation of the complex within the mountain, and that the spiral housing Marrowgar's room , and crowned by the Frozen Throne is at the southernmost point of the. The mountain's western side appears to have Icecrown five-mans. They are higher up.

Blightmare asks...

My main objective is DPS as the death knight. I was wondering how high my gear score should be to run ICC regular 10-man?

The ICC-10 badge is designed for players who have i-level 232 gear. This is what you can get from nonheroic ToC-10 or the majority of badge pieces. However, most non-set Triumph badges are i-level 245. If you have better than that, ICC-10 will be easier for you; if you're worse than that, it will be more difficult, and so on and so on.

I don't know what Gear Score would look like apart from that. I think that many classes and specifications still benefit from trinkets of lower levels or relics (Greatness anyone?). that can be a blunder on Gear Score that, at most, I'm unconvinced about the benefits of using GS to say that one is or isn't designed to specific content.
